If you keep your purse in your pocket because your handbag is full of extra lenses and a spare battery, you truly believe that fifty shades of grey is a lighting issue, or if you just happen to order your meals by what will photograph best for Facebook, you might want to be in Queenstown for “Caught in the moment”, the 64th National Convention of the Photographic Society of New Zealand.
For everyone from beginners with their first point-and-shoot to professional photographers, “Caught in the moment” promises to offer inspiration, fun, friendship and plenty of photographic opportunities over four snap-happy days.
The programme includes workshops, guest speakers, photo sessions and lots of social activities. Each day begins with a morning excursion followed by a full schedule of activities; however the scenery in Queenstown is such that you won’t be short of imagery. Remember, this is Lord of the Rings territory, so watch out for hobbits on those landscape shoots!
Lake Wakatipu is a stunning backdrop for photography, either from the banks or on a lake cruise. At this time of year the hills are ablaze with colour and the mountain tops may be anything from rose red to snow white, depending on the weather.
Head over to Arrowtown during the convention days and join in the hoopla at the Arrowtown Autumn Festival, where there will be plenty of wild and colourful sights just waiting to be snapped.
For non-shooters, there are photo exhibitions and displays, and – in case you get hooked – a chance to buy camera equipment at the Trade Stands.
